The B-45 "TORNADO" Light bomber came to Sculthorpe in 1952 with the 47th Bombardment wing and was on the forefront of the Atomic deterrent until it was replaced by the B-66 in 1957.
The B-45 achieved many aviation firsts, First Jet Bomber to be refueled midair, First Jet Bomber to drop an atomic device, Americas first multi Jet Bomber.
Sadly, the B-45 is largely unknown, However we here at the RAF Sculthorpe Heritage Centre are Ensuring that this unsung cold war warrior is being remembered.
We are very proud to have an extensive collection of photos and items connected to this aircraft including one of only two pieces known to be on public display in Europe which was found in a drainage ditch by a local out walking near to the base.
The Front entrance door took some time to establish what it was, but it now takes pride of place in our B-45 collection.
