The RAF Sculthorpe Heritage Centre tells the history and stories of North Norfolks only USAF atomic base.

Once the largest and most strategically important American airbase, home to 10,000 personnel.

For over a decade it was the atomic deterrent against the Soviet Union.
The Centre relives the 50 year history of RAF Sculthorpe from WW2 special operations.                                                                                            The first Overflights over the Soviet Union, Operation Jiu Jitsu.                                                        The Tidal Surge of 1953.
The "Atomic" incident in 1958.
Closure and reopening under the 48th Fighter wing.
The "Flintlock" training years.
We also have many pictures, books, items, uniforms all connected to Sculthorpe.
An excellent selection of model aircraft and a dress up area for the kids.

We are now proud to unveil our latest piece of aviation history............A Sepecat Jaguar fighter jet.
This particular Jaguar served with 16th squadron at RAF Coltishall then a gate guard at RAF Shoreham.
We are very gratful to the owner for allowing us to add this fantastic cold war Jet to our heritage centre.
Due to lack of space at the centre, the Jet is situated on the farmers land in Tattersett.
He is happy for people to look at the Jet, but please be respectful.
There is also a honesty box, all donations will go to the RAF Benevolent Fund.
On display are the only known parts on public display in the UK of a Douglas RB-66 Destroyer.
On the 3rd of July 1958....RB-66 4433 took off from RAF Sculthorpe on a routine Navigational training flight.
Into the flight the crew, Captain A Marcum, Captain William Gray and 1st LT Constantin Costen had realized the Hydraulic pressure had failed and landing was now not an option.
Burning off fuel and setting the Autopilot for a North Sea ditch, the crew ejected out over Sculthorpe.
The plane however, circled Sculthorpe twice before flying off south over Norwich, flying pilotless for 24 mile at approx 400mph....before drilling into a muddy field near long Stretton.... And stayed for 45 years before partly being excavated and taken to Bentwaters.....
Finally, after 60 years she has come home to Sculthorpe.......
