In December 2017, Curator Ian Brown created the RAF Scuthorpe the forgotten Cold War Base page on facebook after reading and learning about the former base though local historians and authors, Jim Baldwin and Peter Gunns books.
He was determined that Sculthorpe would have a permanent place in the history books as the great base it once was.
The opportunity arose in February 2019 when he was offered free use of a storage room at the Green Park Rural Centre (formally the Hawks Haven all ranks club). He had planned to use his garage...
Over seven months of tireless work in fundraising, obtaining exhibits, creating display boards and planning the open day, the big day arrived on the 11th of August 2019 when the centre first opened its doors to over a 1,000 people.
Ian was joined by Jes Woodhead, a local Sculthorpe expert in march 2019.
Proudly on the open day, the centre was opened by the two authors who inspired, Jim Baldwin and Peter Gunn.
We are always looking to build on our centre with New items and Displays.
